A Love Letter to My Trans and Queer Black People

Updated: Sep 1, 2020

Despite how this world treats you, your existence makes this world worth living for. With all the death, destruction and suffering we see everyday on TV, it is a breath of fresh air to see you living freely and unapologetically.

I will stand by you and support you until the day I die. It’s disgusting the way those bigots treat you; pretending they’re all high and mighty, and acting like who you love, don’t love, or how you dress, is their business. Nothing good comes to people who spread hate like they do, and I just want you to know that there are people who have your back and love you — like me. I love you for all you are and all you contribute to this world.

Speaking of contributions, without Black Trans and Queer People, the Black Community wouldn’t have progressed as much as it has. I mentioned this in my ‘Letter to the Black Community Regarding Our Trans and Queer Black People’, and I’ll say it again: Trans and Queer Black People made as much of a contribution to the culture and freedoms the Black Community gets to enjoy today, as any cishet Black Man or Woman. So it makes no sense in my mind for any person, but especially a Black Person, to be anti-LGBTQIA+. Because if it weren’t for y’all, we wouldn’t be living the lives we do.

So to all my Trans, Gender Non-Comforming, Non-Binary, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Pansexual, Two-Spirit, Androgynous and Asexual Black People out there: I love you dearly and I am so greatful for your existence. You are worthy of love, compassion and happiness. You deserve the best this world can give, and everything about you is beautiful and awe-inspiring.

Love and Light,

Azé
